BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis team won all 10 matches contested on Saturday in the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships, hosted by Bloomsburg.
In doubles, IUP has two of the final four teams in the semifinal round remaining, each logging a pair of victories on the day.
Ming Deewajee and
Dani Ramos continued their strong seasons, becoming one of the top duos in the nation, with 8-0 sweeps against Corrine Markovich/Brinley Orris (Shippensburg) and Gabreilla Lerario dos Santos/Sohna Thompson (Slippery Rock).
Katy Graydon and
Lydia Vlachou cruised to the semifinal round following an 8-2 win against the Millersville pairing of Jen Hui Soo and Chloe Abramowitz. Graydon and Vlachou continued their momentum into the quarterfinals with an 8-0 win against Shepherd's Ximena Bolanos Tellez and Marketa Baladova.
IUP also pushed three singles competitors into the quarterfinal round.
Dewajee, Graydon and Ramos posted four total wins on the day with two more coming in the singles portion of the championships. Deewajee logged a 6-1, 6-1 win in the round of 32 before advancing to the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Bolanos Tellez.
Elsewhere in singles action, Graydon and Ramos were victorious, advancing to matchups in the round of 16. Graydon posted a 6-0, 6-0 clean sweep of Lock Haven's Mia Shuler, while Ramos registered a 6-1, 6-0 win against Markovich.
In the next round, Ramos added a win against Baldova, 6-1, 7-5, with Graydon knocking off Edinboro's Cecilia Carayol by scores of 6-4, 6-4.
"The ladies went 10-0 today in tricky conditions," IUP head coach Andrew McGlashen said. "I'm happy how they used the wind to their advantage and didn't see it as a negative."

IUP resumes action tomorrow, October 9, with the doubles semifinals and singles quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
