IUP sputters in regular season finale at Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Battling some inconsistency at the service line, the IUP women's volleyball team dropped its regular season finale in four sets to Seton Hill on Saturday at the McKenna Center.
 
IUP closes out the regular season at 21-9 overall and 11-5 in the PSAC West, while Seton hill closes out the year at 13-16 and 6-10 in divisional play. Set scores were 29-31, 25-20, 15-25, 21-25.
 
In another closely contested contest, both sides recorded 53 kills, 21 attack errors and eight aces.
 
IUP had already secured a spot in the conference tournament going into the final week of the regular season, and will slot in the three spot of the PSAC West. The Hawks begin their PSAC Tournament run on Tuesday, November 14 at Clarion.
 
SHU held a slight edge in total blocks (7.0-5.0) while IUP had an uncharacteristic 14 service errors for the match. Stefania Anagnostou paced IUP with 15 kills and 15 digs with kat Warpinski dealing out 31 assists. Lauren Valentic got off to a strong start, finishing with 10 kills and five total blocks.
 
For the second consecutive day, IUP played an extended opening set, falling short in this one by a 31-29 margin. IUP held a 13-8 lead int eh set after an ace from Warpinski, maintaining a slight margin despite SHU chipping away. Despite a 6-1 SHU run, IUP had a chance for set point on a Simay Memisoglu as IUP led 24-22. The Griffins flipped the script, holding on for a hard-fought 31-29 set against the Hawks.
 
IUP used a fast start in the second set, opening up a 13-6 advantage on a spurt that included kills from Nyla Birch, Delaney Concannon, Memisoglu and Valentic. With IUP leading, the teams continued trading points. The Hawks remained ahead dropping in a stretch of kills from Concannon, Valentic and Anagnostou for a 24-18 lead, later claiming the set on a service error.
 
With the match even at one, Seton Hill benefitted from a fast start in the third set for an 8-4 lead. The Griffins used another 4-0 run, working the advantage to 17-9. Anagnostou delivered two kills down the stretch as SHU held on for a 25-15 set victory.
 
The Griffins stormed out of the gate in the fourth set, taking leads of 12-5 and 15-6. IUP used a seven-point swing to make the set competitive as Concannon's service ace sliced the deficit to 22-18. In the end, SHU had enough of a cushion to close out the match with a 25-21 victory.
 
Catie Flohr logged a match-high 19 kills for Seton Hill.
