IUP NEWS AND NOTES
  • Monday marks the 30th career game behind the bench for second-year head coach Craig Carey, posting a 19-10 record during his tenure.
  • In a tune-up for the rest of the nonconference slate, IUP rolled to a 101-21 victory against Penn State New Kensington on November 10. Its 80-point win is the third-largest margin of victory in program history also tying the third fewest points allowed in a single game (21) and third fewest points allowed in a half (7; 1st half).
  • The Hawks shot 71.4% from the floor in the first quarter in Friday's opener, finishing at a 64.2% clip for the game and 50% (7-14) from three.
  • Rahmena Henderson impressed in limited minutes during her IUP debut against PSNK, posting 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and adding four rebounds, two steals and one assist. She was one of five scorers in double figures for IUP in the opener, starting in place of Gina Adams (injury) to begin the 2024-24 campaign.
  • Grace Centrulla enters the game just two rebounds shy of 500 for her collegiate career, collecting 492 during her three seasons at Mercyhurst and six more in her IUP debut. Centrulla went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, notching 15 points and matching the scoring/rebounding output of fellow forward Teirra Preston.
  • Maria Cerro ranked fifth in the PSAC in steals (61) and steals/game (2.18) last season and picked up right where she left off with a game-high five steals against PSNK. Cerro boasts 609 career points on 39.7% shooting and 94 career steals.
  • Kiera Baughman dealt out four assists with 11 points and three steals in the opener, while Nyshae' Weaver was close to a double-double with 11 points (4-6 FG) and eight rebounds.

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
  • Since the KCAC opened in the 2011-12 season, IUP has had an outstanding home court advantage to go along with a nationally prominent basketball program.
  • IUP boasts a 144-26 (.847) mark in home games since the venue opened, not losing more than four home games in a single season during that span.
  • At the KCAC, the IUP women have won:
    • 13 of 17 games in 2022-23 (13-4)
    • 27 of their last 35 (27-8)
    • 43 of their last 53 (43-10)
    • 56 of their last 68 (56-12) since 2018-19

NONCONFERENCE EXCELLENCE FOR IUP
  • IUP has registered a sterling 54-6 (.900) record since 2011-12 in nonconference play during the regular season.
  • The Hawks have gone undefeated in conference play each of the last two seasons, posting a combined 11-0 mark during that span since 2021-22.
  • Carey and IUP rattled off a 5-0 mark in the nonconference slate in 2022-23 season, opening the year with a win to begin the 2023-24 season.

SERIES HISTORY
  • IUP boasts a 6-1 all-time record in seven meeting with Salem, recently winning matchups against the Tigers in 2019 and in November 2021 at home (82-58). The Hawks used a big third quarter with Gina Adams posting 10 points and current assistant coach Courtney Alexander knocking down a pair of three-point baskets.
  • IUP holds a 5-2 lead in the all-time series with Fairmont State through seven meetings. IUP and Fairmont will meet for the first time since November 2013, a 62-46 victory at the KCAC. Ashley Stoner recorded her first double-double of the season, posting 12 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Hawks to victory.  '
