INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania baseball program put on a hitting clinic Wednesday afternoon at Owen J. Dougherty Field, erupting for 15 runs and 16 hits while blasting a half-dozen home runs in a 15-10 victory over Mount Aloysius.
Â
The scoring bonanza produced more runs (15) over one nine-inning contest than the Crimson Hawks logged (14) through four games as well as the most runs in a non-conference matchup since 2021.
Â
Its six round-trippers were the most in a single contest since hitting the same number of bombs in an incredible 30-10 triumph at Clarion on April 2, 2015.
Â
It was a nightmare for pitching coaches everywhere as all 25 combined runs that crossed the plate were earned despite four fielding errors.
Â
The only hurler on either squad to toss a full frame and come away unscathed was Cole Litman, allowing a single base runner.
Â
In an unprecedented display of power, depth and balance as the six taters came off different players' bats.
Â
Markus Cestra, Harrison Pontoli, David Kessler, Andrew Sicinski, Elijah Dunn, and Au'sean Owens all went yard with Cestra, Dunn, and Kessler's long balls being two-run shots while the rest were of the solo variety.
Â
Those powerful student-athletes combined to hit .520 (13-for-25), account for 32 total bases, score 13 times, drive in 13 RBIs, walked twice and stole a base.
Â
Torrey Roper used his speed rather than his strength, motoring for a pair of steals in a 2-for-3 outing that saw him walk, score, and drive home two.
Â
Barring the ever-present possibility of rain throwing a wrench in the plans, Indiana (Pa.) will return to the diamond on Friday at 6 p.m. to begin a three-game series against the Newberry Wolves in South Carolina.
