INDIANA, Pa. – IUP women's lacrosse took control from the opening whistle, working in most of the lineup in a 20-2 thrashing of Edinboro on Friday at Miller Stadium.
IUP (3-3. 2-0) picked up its second win against an Erie County school this week, building a 14-0 advantage into the third quarter. The Hawks held a 34-9 advantage in shots and caused 12 turnovers on the night against a rebuilding Edinboro (2-4, 0-2) squad.
IUP placed 13 different student-athletes in the goal scoring column, led by three goals each from
Macenzie Haragos and
Leah Moyer. The duo each recorded two assists for a team-high total of five points each, part of an all-around offensive output.
Sarah Reustle,
Emme Mass and
Maggie Boyle added two markers apiece for IUP. The Hawks stormed ahead 5-0 less than five minutes into the contest, continuing to press the advantage into the second quarter.
Rylee Wilson and
Alex Bush grabbed four draw controls each for IUP with Rueslte and
Amanda Reynolds scooping up three ground balls each.
Haragos sliced in for a 10-0 lead at 9:58 in the second quarter, which prompted the running clock the rest of the way. The Hawks split duties between the pipes as
Maddy Schramm,
Ashley Andrikanich and
Mia Courtalis all played at least 15 minutes.
The Hawks scored on their initial five shots of the game with Mass,
Jordan Kulp, Resutle and Burke all getting in on the early barrage of markers. The Hawks later rounded out the second quarter with a 13-0 lead.
IUP remained stout on the defensive end, making things difficult for Edinboro on the clear. IUP rounded out the game with five goals in the second half, including five in the fourth quarter along.
