SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – Facing another ranked opponent down in Florida, IUP women's tennis could not parlay a strong start in doubles action to a victory, falling xx-xx to No. 33 Tampa on Saturday.
After falling behind in doubles action, IUP bounced back with consecutive victories to claim the point.
Natalie Kmoskova and
Joanna Stralka combined for a 6-3 victory against Tampa's Raquel Amaro and Victoria Sanchez.
Idoia Huerta and
Lydia Vlachou clinched the doubles point for IUP at the No. 2 spot, knocking off Anine Wilberg and Svannah Williams by a 6-2 score.
The ranked Spartans regained some momentum at the onset of singles action with Aleks Topalovic and Wilberg defeating Vlachou and
Laura Dunarova in the number four and five matches, part of some stellar play in singles. Tampa expanded the advantage to 3-1 with a win at number three singles, despite a strong match from
Katy Graydon.
Tampa finished out the match with wins in all six singles matches. Stralka was competitive in number two singles against Victoria Sanchez, falling 7-5, 7-5.
