Baseball Starts Off PSAC Play Right With Road Sweep Of Clarion

BUTLER, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania baseball program is starting to heat up as the weather gets warmer and conference play starts rolling, winning its third and fourth straight contests with a doubleheader sweep of the Clarion Golden Eagles on Friday afternoon, winning 9-3 and 6-0 in both squads' PSAC openers.

The first shutout of the season is now credited to Mark Edeburn who improved to 3-0 in 2023 with his complete game dominance in the nightcap. The senior righty from nearby McMurray pitched a career-high seven full innings while surrendering just three hits and one walk to go along with two strikeouts.

Game one's pitchers were no slouches either as Jeremiah Williams got the start and collected 11 outs (3.2 IP) with two runs allowed and one whiff while Paul Tripi put up zeroes in the hit, run, and walk columns en route to getting the victory, thanks to a six-run seventh by the Crimson Hawks' offense.

Davin Landers has now racked up three consecutive multi-RBI outings, driving home a pair of runners in both matchups via a two-RBI single and a two-run double, scoring and walking as well during the opener.

Andrew Sicinski drove home a quartet of Crimson Hawks along with Landers, doing so on a two-bagger, a hard-hit single, and a groundout.

Markus Cestra scored three times, slapped two singles, walked once, brought home one, and stole second with Branden Kanick providing the other swiped bag.

Au'sean Owens fell a long ball short of a cycle over the twin-bill, going 3-of-8 (.375) and combining for six total bases on top of three runs plus a base on balls.

IUP will attempt to complete a Friday and Sunday, home-and-home four game sweep of Clarion on home soil this Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. as Saturday's doubleheader was pushed back due to rain in the forecast.
