Balanced Crimson Hawks overtake Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – IUP women's lacrosse opened up a sizable lead early and did not look back, steamrolling a rebuilding Edinboro squad in a 21-2 road victory on Saturday.

IUP (10-4, 8-1) racked up a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, pushing the advantage to 16-1 at the intermission. The Crimson Hawks peppered 39 shots on the day with 33 coming on target.

Rylee Wilson notched a career-high four goals, adding four ground balls and nine draw controls for the Crimson Hawks. Wilson was one of six IUP student-athletes with multiple goals on the day, continuing to inch closer to the 100 draw control plateau (95).

Macenzie Haragos, Brenna Whiteside, Emme Mass and Chantal Jimenez all added three goals each offensively. Defensively, Kim Carpentiere picked up four ground balls with Rachel Knight causing three turnovers.

The IUP goaltending trio of Maddy Schramm, Ashley Andrikanich and Mia Courtalis needed just a combined four saves as the offense racked up a season high in goals.

IUP wasted no time jumping out to a solid lead, hanging six unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes of the first quarter. Goals number four, five and six all came from the stick of Haragos. After allowing Edinboro to get on the board at 6-1, IUP ripped off another streak of three straight, two from Mass and one from Maggie Kilgallon, to close out the first quarter with a 9-1 lead.

Whiteside kicked off the second quarter before a minute had even ticked off the cock. Wilson, Leah Moyer and Jimenez each added a goal to make the score 13-1 IUP four minutes into quarter two. Another three unanswered IUP goals from three different goal-scorers (Jimenez, Whiteside, Wilson) would find their way to the back of the net before the quarter came to a close. IUP held a 16-1 lead heading into the halftime break.

Third quarter scoring for the Crimson Hawks was kicked off by Maggie Boyle at the 13:38 mark, pushing the IUP lead 17-1. Edinboro was able to put a second goal, scored by Caroline Zentis, past the IUP defense to make the score 17-2. Another two goals from Wilson and Kilgallon extended the IUP lead to 17, as they took a 19-2 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Jimenez connected with Alexi Crosby 18 seconds into the fourth quarter for IUP goal number 20. The Crimson Hawks offensive onslaught finally came to a close with goal #21 from Wilson to put the final scoreline at IUP 21, Edinboro 2.
