IUP women’s lacrosse listed in initial NCAA DII Atlantic Region rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – IUP women's lacrosse was listed among the under consideration in the first set of NCAA DII Atlantic Region Rankings, compiled through games on April 16, announced this week.
 
IUP looks to crack the top four spots in the regional rankings in hopes of the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Crimson Hawks boast a 10-4 overall mark, all within the region, reeling off three straight victories heading into the weekend.
 
East Stroudsburg, IUP, Kutztown, Seton Hill, Slippery Rock and West Chester are all among schools in the six-team listing.
 
IUP has cemented itself as one of the top defensive units in the country with the regular season quickly winding down, ranking seventh nationally in scoring defense (7.50). The Crimson Hawks have been a strong second half team, particularly in the fourth quarter of contests this year, while ranking ninth nationally in draw control percentage (.598).
 
IUP boasts an 8-1 overall mark in conference play with key matchups against Slippery Rock (April 22), Seton Hill (April 26) and Lock Haven (April 29) remaining.
 
The top four schools in each of the NCAA's four Division II regions make up the 16-team championship field next month. The NCAA will release its first regional rankings in numerical order next Wednesday (April 26).
