IUP women’s lacrosse overwhelms Lock Haven in resounding Sunday victory

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP women's lacrosse used a strong start, building an early lead and rolling to a 15-4 victory against Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon at Miller Stadium.

IUP (7-3) dictated possession over the course of the opening half with an impressive combination of dominance at the draw control circle and stifling defense in the clearing game. The Crimson Hawks reached a 10-goal lead in the second half, playing the majority of the final two quarters with a running clock.

The Crimson Hawks mounted a 9-0 lead at the intermission, holding a 21-7 advantage in shots through 30 minutes and limiting Lock Haven (3-7) to just 5-of-10 on clearing attempts. Leah Moyer led another balanced offensive effort for IUP with four goals and an assist, grabbing three ground balls with a caused turnover.

Chantal Jimenez picked up three goals on four shots with four draw controls, while Sarah Reustle and Macenzie Haragos notched similar stat lines with two goals and an assist each. Brenna Whiteside added three points and Jordan Kulp passed out two assists, reaching 100 for her career, in limited action on Sunday.

Lock Haven used four different goal scorers, firing in three tallies in the fourth quarter.

Between the pipes, Maddy Schramm had two saves before giving way to Ashley Andrikanich. Dana Mirigliano gobbled up 10 saves for the Bald Eagles in goal as IUP finished with 34 shots. Emme Mass grabbed five ground balls with three caused turnovers in another stellar outing on the defensive side for the Crimson Hawks as Maggie Marsteller posted four ground balls and four caused turnovers of her own.

The Hawks fired in five goals over the opening 15 minutes, adding four more in the second stanza. Haragos figured in on each of the initial two markers, getting the start on Sunday. She dished a feed to Jimenez for the opening tally before adding her seventh of the season at 12:57 for a 2-0 lead in the opening quarter.

With a 3-0 lead, Kulp assisted on back-to-back markers, hitting the 100-assist plateau for her career. From there, Whiteside and Kathryn Burke found the net surrounding by a trio of tallies from Moyer into the third quarter.

Ruestle started the running clock for the remainder of the game with her 28th goal of the season at 3:12 in the third. The Bald Eagles found a bit of a rhythm in the fourth quarter, never getting back within single digits the rest of the way.

Maggie Boyle cashed in for the final goal of the game with just about 10 seconds left as IUP extended its winning streak.
