WILMINGTON, Del. – Ending the weekend road swing on a high note, IUP women's tennis secured its first 7-0 victory of the 2023 campaign with a shutout victory against Godley-Beacom on Sunday.
IUP (6-8) secures its fifth consecutive win with Sunday's triumph.
After locking up the doubles decision,
Karolin Kirchtag ultimately secured the victory for IUP at No. 1 singles as part of a banner afternoon.
Joanna Stralka and
Laura Dunarova opened the matchup with a 6-0 shutout win at No. 3 doubles before the duo of Kirchtag and
Katy Graydon clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory.
Idoia Huerta and
Lydia Vlachou rounded out doubles action with a 6-4 victory against the combination of Elizabeth Mova and Nahomi Quinonez for Golde-Beacom (4-8).
Transitioning to the singles portion of the match, Stralka got things started with a swift 6-0, 6-2 victory at the number two flight. Vlachou kept the momentum going with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at N0. 4 singles before Kirchtag secured the win for the Crimson Hawks.
From there, Graydon added a 6-2, 6-3 triumph against Maria Bruno at number three singles. Huerta and Dunarova both notched extended first set victories before closing out the matchup in the second set for the Hawks.
