Lucky Sevens, Big Innings Leads Crimson Hawks Over Golden Eagles

INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania softball program dropped ten unanswered runs to blow out Clarion in game one (10-1) in five and then entered the seventh trailing by two before scoring seven times to stun the Golden Eagles in game two (9-4), sweeping the Battle of the Birds.

Indiana (PA) roughed up the pitching staff all afternoon long, smacking 25 hits including eight that went for extra bases.

Bella Bucy was borderline untouchable on her way to a five-inning complete game opener victory, allowing a single run, four hits, and a walk while fanning a tied for career-high seven batters to claim her 11th win.

Elizabeth Kasper was equally filthy, shutting out PWUC over the final 3.2 frames as she struck out a pair en route to giving up two hits for her third pitching win of 2023.

Madison Pikula was a jack of all trades on Tuesday, collecting five hits in seven at-bats (.714) while ending up with a two-game cycle in which she ended up at ten total bases via a home run, two doubles, and two singles. Pikula scored on four of those five base knocks and her round-tripper was of the ultra-rare inside the park three-RBI variety during the second inning of the first contest.

Earlier in the frame that Pikula made her race around the pillows, Jaycee Haidze went yard the old-fashioned way, belting a two-run bomb into the power alley in right-centerfield, driving in three Hawks on the day.

Delaney Patella did not homer but still cleared the bases with a three-RBI double as well as a two-RBI single to lead the squad with five ribbies.

Sara Tailford had a seeing-eye single type of day, going 4-of-7 (.571) plus a trio of scores.

Jess Cekada reached safely four times total, smacking three hits including the lone triple by the Hawks and a walk.

Thursday, the ladies will play its final road matchups of the regular season at Pittsburgh-Johnstown starting at 2 p.m. while currently tied for the fifth and final PSAC West Tournament spot at with Gannon, both at 15-13, but the Knights hold the tiebreaker by taking the season series, 3-1.
