IUP women fall to No. 22 Seton Hill; locked into two spot in PSAC West

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP women's lacrosse had trouble solving a stout Seton Hill defensive unit as the 22nd-ranked Griffins posted a 14-6 victory against the Crimson Hawks on Wednesday at Miller Stadium.

Seton Hill (14-3, 12-0) caps a perfect conference slate and locks up the number one seed in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western division. Meanwhile, IUP (11-5, 9-2) slots into the two-seed within the PSAC West, awaiting the winner of the regular season finale between Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock on Saturday to determine its postseason opponent.

The Griffins slowly pulled away over the second quarter, outscoring IUP by a 4-1 margin in the second quarter. It ended up being a lead the Griffins would not relinquish, employing strong defense for the duration of the contest. SHU increased its margin over the fourth quarter with six goals, including five consecutive, completing the season sweep.

Leah Moyer had three goals in leading the Crimson Hawks offensively, while Macenzie Haragos added two more. Defensively, Maggie Marsteller reached 100 career ground balls and 50 career caused turnovers in the setback.

Maddy Schramm recorded 10 saves in goal for IUP with Kyleigh Hessian adding 12 saves for the Griffins. Overall, Seton Hill racked up 22 shots on the afternoon and forced IUP into 23 turnovers.

Both sides traded goals early, both coming from Moyer at 13:56 and 11:44. From there, Seton Hill used a stretch of three consecutive goals into the second quarter for a 5-2 edge. Hragos responded with her 19th goal of the season, burying a feed from Jordan Kulp to bring IUP back within 5-3.

Again, Seton Hill had a surge, moving ahead 7-3 at the intermission. Skylar Orlowski expanded the advantage to 8-3 for the Griffins. Moyer worked for the Hawks' lone marker of the third quarter, posting her 30th of the season.

SHU continued pulling away in the fourth with Haragos and Burke finding the net over the final five minutes for IUP.
