INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania softball program has the makings of something special brewing in Western Pennsylvania, claiming its sixth and seventh wins in-a-row by scores of 4-3 in extras and 9-5 over Clarion.
Â
Delaney Patella looks to once again be one of the favorites to win PSAC Athlete of the Week, following her 7-for-7 day with two bombs, one in each game, with the first one being a walk-off solo blast in extra innings to give Indiana (PA) its sixth consecutive victory. She ended the afternoon totaling three RBIs, three runs scored, two homers, a sacrifice fly plus a walk.
Â
Jordan Sylvia and
Jess Cekada took a page out of Patella's playbook as both were a perfect 3-of-3 in games one and two, respectively, as Sylvia scored two of the team's four runs while doubling and Cekada registered three ribbies with a double while Sylvia notched a two-bagger in the nightcap as well.
Â
Bella Bucy came out of the pen twice and earned both pitching wins because of it, spinning six scoreless innings over two appearances and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of four to one.
Â
Amanda Fischer played the role of long reliever in game one, entering the game after just a single out and allowing one run through five full frames.
Â
If not for some less than stellar defense,
Tori Long would have only given up one run and possibly could have been kept in longer than the 3.2 innings she did, but five total runs were put in the Golden Eagles' column to chase her.
Â
The streak remains alive for at least three more days when Pitt-Johnstown comes to campus on Friday at 2 and 4 p.m. for the Crimson Cup Games as well as Mental Health Awareness promotion.
