CHARLESTON, W.Va. – IUP women's tennis, cracking the ITA DII rankings at No. 41, fell in a regional battle with 20th-ranked Charleston (W.Va.) by a 5-2 count on Friday afternoon in West Virginia.
IUP (7-9) swept through doubles play to claim the point but followed it up with just one triumph in singles action against a potent Charleston (14-1) lineup.
Natalie Kmosova and
Joanna Stralka remained a formidable duo, handling Prinkle Singh and Alyssa Cameron for a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. From there,
Idoia Huerta and
Lydia Vlachou nabbed a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles, the same score
Katy Graydon and
Karolin Kirchtag secured No. 1 doubles by.
The Golden Eagles took control in the singles portion of the matchup, posting win in five of six flights against the Crimson Hawks. Vlachou picked up a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the No. 5 singles slot for IUP.
