SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania baseball program could not solve the puzzle that was the #3E West Chester Golden Rams, going undefeated against #1E Millersville and #3W California (PA) but winless versus WCU as they fell by a score of 7-2, ending their run in the PSAC Tournament.
Friday's setback marked the deepest run in the conference tournament for the IUP baseball program since the 2011 season.
Au'sean Owens reached base safely three times over four plate appearances with his only hit being a triple, walking twice, scoring a run, and stealing a base.
Peyton Johnson and
Harrison Pontoli each poked two singles apiece with one of each bringing home a baserunner while Pontoli swiped second and crossed the plate once as well.
Markus Cestra got on-base twice via a ball four and a hit-by-pitch,
Brady Yard singled,
Andrew Sicinski coaxed a walk, and
Zach Miller took a stroll to first to wrap up the offensive stat line.
On the bump,
Jimmy Tooley struck out two Golden Rams,
Sebastian Rosado-Guindin tossed two innings of one-run work,
Patrick Apgar whiffed a pair in 1.1 frames, and
Eli Glass recorded the final two outs.
The Crimson Hawks ended the season with a 25-29 (.463) overall record and a 15-12 (.556) mark in the PSAC West, reaching the conference tournament for the first time in five years (2017), its second consecutive season above .500 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
