PSAC Spring Top 10 2023

Kirchtag and Fedor named to PSAC Spring Top 10 Team

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP women's tennis student-athlete Karolin Kirchtag and men's golfer Shaun Fedor were named to the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Spring Top 10 Team, the league announced Thursday.

Honorees are chosen and voted on by the league's athletic communications professionals.

The PSAC Top 10 was initiated in the 1998-99 academic year, given to men and women who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition. A total of 10 student-athletes - five men and five women - are chosen after each sports season; fall, winter and spring. To be a candidate for the Top 10 Award, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.

IUP was one of three PSAC institutions, joining California (Pa.) and West Chester, with multiple selections on the Spring Top 10.

Thursday marked the second career PSAC Top 10 honor for Kirchtag, adding to her bevy of academic and athletic achievements. Meanwhile, Fedor earns his first career PSAC Spring Top 10 award and becomes the first IUP golfer to earn the ward since 2018-19.

A two-time PSAC Champion Scholar, Kirchtag was named a 2022-23 CSC Academic All-America® First Team honoree earlier this month.

Kirchtag graduated with a master's degree in sport science, concluding her graduate coursework with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. A six-time All-PSAC First Team selection across singles and doubles over her IUP career, Kirchtag has been part of three consecutive PSAC Championships since transferring from Alabama-Huntsville following the 2019-20 campaign.

Fedor was named the PSAC Champion Scholar at last October's conference championship tournament, the fourth straight conference title for the Crimson Hawks. He became a four-time All-PSAC honoree following his second team recognition earlier this month.

Fedor finished second on the team with an average of 74.47, ranking fifth in program history in career scoring average (75.09) since 2007.

Fedor finished tied for third at the 2023 PSAC Championships in October before carding a one-under 71 in the opening round of the 2023 NCAA National Championships at Avalon Lakes.

Kirchtag and Fedor join IUP women's swimmers Rachel Johnson and Paige Mikesell, who earned PSAC Winter Top 10 honors.

Kirchtag became the fourth IUP women's tennis player to earn the PSAC Top 10 honor last season, now just the third two-time honoree alongside Tanya Timko (2014, 2015) and Yvonne Niederbracht (2004, 2005).
