BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – IUP advanced in both singles and doubles on the second day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region Championships, hosted by Bloomsburg on Friday.
With the singles rounds of 32 and 16 contested on Friday, along with the doubles quarterfinals, IUP has three total student-athletes advancing to Saturday's winners bracket.
Ming Deewajee advanced in both singles and doubles on Friday, joining
Dani Ramos in the doubles semifinals while advancing to the singles quarterfinals.
In doubles, Deewajee and Ramos dispatched Michelle Connor and Sara Martinez (Charleston), 6-3. Deewajee handled Chavana Sreenath (Davis & Elkins) in the round of 32 with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph before ousting Kiersten Brown (Mercyhurst) by scores of 6-4, 6-1.
Katy Graydon also advanced to the singles quarterfinals for IUP with 6-0, 6-4 win against Slippery Rock's Gabriela Del Val Del Toro. Graydon began the day with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph against Amanda Mendez Thomasson of West Virginia State.
"This deep into a tournament all the players are very talented," IUP head coach Andrew McGlashen said. "Ming and Dani started the day off perfectly with a very good win over Charleston."
In singles, Ramos fell to Michele Connor in the round of 32.
Lina Teleshun dropped a 7-5, 0-6, 5-10 three-set decision to Mercyhurst's Kayla Dean.
Hannah Beitat defeated Laura Maciel in a hard-fought contest in set scores of 6-7, 6-4, 10-7, later falling to Sofiia Krasikova.
Teleshun and Beitat were downed in the doubles round of 32 against the Charleston pairing of Prinkle Singh and Harriet Glaves.
"The ladies did a fantastic job of maintaining a level head throughout the day," McGlashen continued.

The doubles semifinals begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the singles quarterfinals and semifinals later in the day.
