FINDLAY, Ohio – The IUP women's volleyball program took down Saginaw Valley State on Saturday during the final day of action at the Findlay Classic.
IUP (5-4) won the match in set scores of 25-16, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19.
Senior
Stefania Anagnostou racked up 21 kills on the match, hitting at a blistering .333 clip. Junior
Nyla Birch added seven kills on .500 hitting and freshman
Delaney Concannon added seven kills.
Kat Warpinski posted 29 assists and
Hannah Simmons added 14 assists in a balanced effort.
The Hawks raced ahead 6-2 to start the, capped by a block from Birch and graduate student
Caroline Walsh. The Hawks held the advantage for much of the set and used a 6-1 push to close out the frame at 25-16.
The second set was back and forth throughout with neither side able to pull away. Saginaw Valley recorded the final three points of the frame to collect a 25-21 win.
IUP surged ahead 5-0 at the onset of the third set with several errors before the Hawks moved ahead 9-5 off an ace from senior
Bailey Flowerdew. Saginaw Valley battled back, eventually tying the set at 13 before IUP jumped ahead 18-16 on a block from Anagnostou and senior
Lauren Valentic. IUP took a 2-1 lead in the match with a big push at the end, capped by a kill from Anagnostou for a 25-19 triumph.
IUP took control for the majority of the fourth set, including a seven-point run for a 19-12 advantage. Concannon pushed the Hawks in front 24-19 before
Simay Memisoglu and Valentic combined for a block and victory.
