ROME, Ga. — The IUP women's tennis tandem of Ming Deewajee and Dani Ramos advanced to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup Quarterfinal round, securing a hard fought three-set victory against a pairing from Midwestern State on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Hawks claimed the match in set scores of 4-6, 6-2 (10-6) against Midwestern State's duo of Jessica Binzari and Anda Ghinga. Deewajee and Ramos keep their unblemished doubles record intact this season, moving to 9-0 in 2024-25.
 
Deewajee and Ramos officially made their second ITA Cup appearance in as many seasons as part of the doubles draw this week. The IUP pairing is a combined 33-12 since joining forces last season as newcomers to the program.
 
Formerly known as the Small College Nationals, the ITA Cup has a history dating back to 1986.
 
"What a match! Dani and Ming showcased why they are one of the best doubles teams in the nation again here this afternoon," IUP head coach Andrew McGlashen said.
 
The ITA Cup is the only singles and doubles national championship event for the Division II and NAIA levels. Regional champions across collegiate tennis earned an invitation to the ITA Cup in both singles and doubles action.

Ramos and Deewajee secured IUP's third ITA Atlantic Region doubles title in mid-September. Much like Thursday's result, IUP needed a tiebreaking third set in the regional championship match against Slippery Rock on September 16.
 
"Midwestern State boasts a storied tennis program and they played some excellent doubles today," McGlashen continued. "The thing that stood out to me was the belief Dani and Ming showed from the start. I'm a very proud coach this evening."

IUP returns to action on Friday, October 11 for the quarterfinals of the ITA Cup doubles draw. Deewajee and Ramos face Roisin Boyd and Katarina Liedback (Adelphi) at 3 p.m.
