Slippery Rock, Pa. – IUP (13-6, 3-2) women's volleyball had a close, back-and-forth game with Slippery Rock (8-9, 1-4), resulting in an IUP win after five sets. The set scores were 18-25, 27-25, 25-21, 20-25, and 17-15.
This win tonight advances the Hawks to third place in the PSAC conference.
IUP dropped the first set but bounced back with second and third set wins, forcing a fifth. In the fifth, the score was tied 11 times before it was 15-15 when IUP pulled away with the game-winning kill from
Sara Fandel.
The Crimson Hawk's offense was the key to winning tonight's game. IUP posted 62 kills against Slippery Rock, including 16 in both the second and third set. In the third set IUP posted an impressive .386 hitting percentage.
Kyra Schmidt reached a career high of 15 kills, followed by 12 from both
Charlotte Potvin and
Jessica Neiman, and
Audrey Torres posted 10.
IUP's
Olivia Heidel greatly contributed to the onslaught against Slippery Rock, racking up a total of 52 assists on the night.
IUP also had a very alert defense against The Rock. The Crimson Hawks tallied seven blocks against Slippery Rock, with
Rylee Brown totaling four blocks, followed by
Charlotte Potvin with two, and
Simay Memisoglu with one.
