INDIANA, Pa. – IUP quickly dispatched California (Pa.) in a 3-0 victory Saturday evening at the KCAC, with set scores of 25-12, 25-11, and 25-14.
Nyla Birch led the Hawks with eight kills, while
Lauren Valentic added seven.
Simay Memisoglu and
Delaney Concannon each contributed six kills.
As a team, IUP hit an impressive .467 for the match, totaling 50 kills and 12 blocks, including a standout .531 hitting percentage in the first set.
With the outcome well in hand, IUP rotated in several newcomers. Freshman
Ellie Rauch dished out 14 assists and added a kill, while
Charlotte Potvin,
Jessica Neiman, and
Kyra Schmidt each chipped in offensively.
Brooke Kessler contributed three digs, joined by
Mikalah Kim and
Faith Dunn with solid defensive efforts.
IUP dominated the match with several point runs, including a six-point streak in the first set fueled by two kills apiece from Memisoglu and Neiman. The set ended on a kill by Kim.
In the second set, IUP jumped out to a 13-5 lead and cruised to a 20-8 advantage, finishing with an ace and four kills.
Birch sealed the victory in the third set, registering six kills to finish the sweep.
