INDIANA, Pa. – IUP concluded the 2024 season with a 38-7 victory over Shippensburg on Saturday at Miller Stadium, led by three rushing touchdowns from quarterback
Karst Hunter.
Hunter completed 12 passes for 134 yards and added 113 rushing yards on 13 attempts. He accounted for three of IUP's touchdowns on the ground. Backup quarterback
Nico Marchitelli entered in the fourth quarter, completing two passes for 19-yards and rushed for 15-yards on two attempts.
Through the air, each recorded two receptions,
Cole Laney totaled 42-yards,
Daniel Deabner totaled 24-yards, and
Connor Shamany added 23-yards.
Adam Houser and
Austin Caye each contributed rushing touchdowns. Houser rushed for 59-yards and Caye saw a late spark for 31-yards.
Kaleb Monaco rushed 86-yards on 13 attempts.
Kicker
Nick Andrasi completed all five extra points and a field goal.
Defensively,
Garrett Cox totaled 11 tackles, including three for loss, bringing his season total to 101 tackles.
Maurice Feazell added four tackles, with two for loss, a sack, and a quarterback hurry.
Logan Danielson also registered a sack, and the team recorded six pass breakups.
IUP's first drive ended with an 18-yard rushing touchdown by Hunter, aided by Monaco's 41 rushing yards from three attempts.
Shippensburg's first drive resulted in a punt after being unable to convert on third and one.
IUP scored again on its second drive, with Hunter rushing for 26-yards before Houser added an 11-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 late in the first quarter, 3:03 remained.
Hunter started the second quarter with two passes to
Connor Shamany for 23-yards making their way to the IUP 33. Their drive was cut short after a 15-yard penalty that was followed by an interception at the IUP 35 that Shippensburg returned to the IUP 13. Shippensburg's field goal attempt from the 28-yard line was no good.
Hunter threw 36-yards to
Cole Laney, positioning the Hawks with a first down. Shippensburg had an interference penalty, allowing the Hawks to set up at the SHU 12. Hunter tossed five-yards to
Maurice Massey followed by a five-yard rush from Houser, setting up Hunter for another two-yard rush into endzone for his second touchdown of the day.
Shippensburg finally found the end zone at 2:37 remaining in the second quarter.
In the final play of the first half, a pair of rushes positioned kicker Andrasi at the SHU 42 for a successful field goal, increasing the Hawks lead 24-7 as they entered the break. Monaco had rushed for 20-yards along with Hunter's 38-yards.
Off to an impressive start, Feazell recorded two tackles and had a sack for a seven-yard loss, forcing Shippensburg to punt.
Taking nearly five minutes off the clock, Hunter found himself in the endzone for the final time. A 15-yard penalty positioned the Hawks at the SHU 49, followed by a 16-yard rush from Houser and a 15-yard pass to
Daniel Deabner put the Hawks in scoring position. Hunter scored for the Hawks from a four-yard run into the endzone.
The end of the third and fourth quarters resulted in the teams exchanging punts.
On IUP's last possession of the game, Marchitelli stepped in to finish out the game.
Austin Caye rushed for 28-yards from seven attempts to score his first touchdown as a Hawk.
