INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP (3-0) women's basketball team dominated from the start, opening with a 22-point run and cruising to a victory over Penn State Beaver on Monday afternoon at the KCAC during Education Day.
The Crimson Hawks' starting five played 13 minutes each, collectively scoring 30 points.
Lily Jordan led the bench with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed six rebounds.
Marin Miller contributed nine rebounds, three assists, and one block alongside her six points, while
Naomi Zulueta tallied eight rebounds, four assists, and six points.
Madison Zavasky made a significant impact off the bench with 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one block, and three steals.
IUP capitalized on turnovers, scoring 18 points from them, including 14 in the first quarter alone.
The Hawks dominated the paint, scoring 60 of their 86 points there, finishing with a 48% field goal percentage and 38.5% shooting from beyond the arc.
The game opened with IUP's explosive 22-0 run in just five minutes, highlighted by
Ellie Wilkerson's back-to-back layups. Penn State Beaver struggled offensively, managing only five points in the first quarter compared to IUP's commanding performance.
The second quarter began slowly, with neither team scoring for the first three minutes. IUP eventually added six points, while Penn State Beaver chipped in a free throw, layup, and a three-pointer before halftime. IUP entered the break with a comfortable 33-point lead.
In the third quarter, the Hawks eased up, allowing PSU-Beaver to score 14 points while adding 18 of their own. IUP's bench took over in the final period, contributing all 22 points to close out the game decisively.
