SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The IUP women's soccer program heads to NCAA Women's Soccer Atlantic Regionals and will take on West Virginia State in the first round Friday, November 22.

IUP Notes
  • IUP earned a bid into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 15 years, last being in 2009, marking the fourth appearance for the IUP women's soccer program.
  • The Crimson Hawks enter the tournament with an 11-2-4 overall record and 9-1-4 in the PSAC under the direction of third-year head coach Noreen Herlihy.
  • IUP dropped to Slippery Rock in the PSAC Quarterfinals in double overtime last week, 2-1.
  • Head Coach Nerlihy was just named the PSAC West Coach of the Year alongside Hannah Scardina who earned PSAC West Athlete of the Year.
  • IUP has scored 30 goals this season, limiting their opponents to 10 and is averaging 12 shots per game.
  • IUP began the season with six wins and one tie. After the lone goal by an opponent in the first game, IUP proceeded to go on a 550 minute shutout streak.
  • Forward Scardina ranks second in the PSAC with 11 goals and led the conference with five-game winning goals. She moved up to fifth in program history for career points (90) and fifth for career goals scored (38).
  • Defender Emma Hays started every game this season and helped anchor a defense that posted 10 shutouts and four ties.
  • Midfielder Emily Mannion started 16 of the 17 games for the Hawks and contributed four goals among four games, all of which were wins.
  • Goalkeeper Makenna Yarrow had an outstanding season, registering 73 saves and 10 shutouts, ranking second in the PSAC in both categories.
  • Midfielder Adi Myers started 10 games and tallied two goals and two assists this season, including goals against No. 2 Gannon.
NCAA Tournament
  • Shepherd and Gannon will host the first and semifinal rounds. Shepherd was awarded the No. 1 seed after they were just named the 2024 PSAC Champion, followed by No.2 Gannon who just won the PSAC West regular season.
  • Four teams from the PSAC were named to the seven-team regional tournament field with three teams making up the Mountain East Conference (MEC).
  • IUP will go against #4 West Virginia State, who were just named the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Champions from a 2-1 victory over Charleston.
  • The two teams have never matched up before.
West Virginia State Notes
  • This marks the Yellow Jackets second time in program history, making an NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • West Virginia State's record is 15-3-3 overall and went 11-2-2 in the MEC conference.
  • The Yellow Jackets are coached by Brandon Slewa, currently in his second season after joining the program in 2023.
  • West Virginia State has totaled 70 goals this season while limiting their opponents to 15 and are averaging 17 shots per game.
  • Individually, Sandra Linares leads the team with 16 goals, five assists, and 37 points.
  • Sara Paris Filter and Leila Karam are close behind tied with 12 goals each and combine for six assists.
  • Goalkeeper Laura Galindo has posted 65 saves for a .813 save percentage.
