IUP women's soccer NCAA run cut short after double overtime loss

SHEPERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The IUP women's soccer program saw their NCAA run cut short after a double overtime loss to West Virginia State Friday afternoon, 2-1.
 
Julia Csernyik scored early for the Hawks at 3:40 when she drove the ball to the top right of the goal. She swooped the ball away when IUP was pressuring the Yellow Jackets defense.
 
Just three minutes later, Hannah Scardina fired two quick shots within 20 seconds, but both were saved.
 
After 20 minutes of play, West Virginia State had taken three shots, two of which went wide, with the other saved by Yarrow. The Yellow Jackets responded with three more shots on goal aimed at the bottom center, but Yarrow denied all of them.
 
With three minutes remaining in the first half, Emily Mannion took a shot, and Scardina followed up with two shots early in the second half.
 
West Virginia State found an opening at 62:47 to tie the game. Yarrow posted three more saves the remainder of the second half to force overtime.
 
In the first overtime, Yarrow made two critical saves, helping to keep the game tied after IUP was unable to get any shots off.
 
Three minutes into the second overtime, West Virginia State scored the game-winning goal.
 
IUP registered just six shots on goal during regulation and couldn't convert in overtime. Makenna Yarrow made eight saves in regulation and two more in the first overtime period.
 
West Virginia State took 20 total shots, four of which came in overtime, with 12 shots on target.
