INDIANA, Pa. – No. 23 IUP women's soccer came close to upsetting undefeated No. 5 Gannon, but a late penalty kick allowed Gannon to pull even and secure a 1-1 draw.
IUP took the lead in the first half when
Adi Myers scored off a header from
Elle Smith's kick at 30:20.
The Hawks held Gannon scoreless for nearly the entire match, but with just six minutes remaining, IUP committed a foul in the box, awarding Gannon a penalty kick.
Despite a diving effort from IUP goalkeeper
Makenna Yarrow, the ball found the back of the net, leveling the score at 1-1.
IUP registered just four shots on goal, with
Hannah Scardina recording two, while Myers and
Avery Clanton each had one. Yarrow made five saves in goal for the Hawks.
Gannon held quite the edge with 14 corner kicks compared to IUP's two.
