PITTSBURGH, Pa. – In a dual match that came down to the wire, the IUP women's tennis program fell short in a 4-3 setback to Duquesne on Sunday at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center of Pittsburgh.
IUP (3-2) nearly completed the comeback effort after dropping the doubles point, answering back with wins in three of six singles flights.
The No. 1 doubles duo of
Ming Deewajee and
Dani Ramos fell in a tiebreaker, dropping the match 7-6 (7-4) to the pair of Daniela Latoni and Kaya Rand.
Katy Graydon emerged victorious at No. 2 singles, picking up a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory against Jusa Roka.
Hannah Beitat followed with a victory in the No. 6 singles slot by scores of 6-2, 0-6, 6-2.
Lydia Vlachou held on for a three-set 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles. Dewajee and Ramos each fell in three-set matches during singles play as part of a competitive dual matchup.
Sunday marked the Hawks second consecutive day of action, previously knocking off Ashland on February 17.
