IUP baseball grinds out another road victory; knocks off Bloomsburg for sixth straight win

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The IUP baseball team racked up 10 runs on 12 hits, later turning to the bullpen in a shutdown effort over the final three frames, all adding up to a 10-7 marathon win at Bloomsburg on Tuesday.
 
IUP (12-4) has now won six straight games, also posting the team's second victory against Bloomsburg (6-15) this season, a 14-4 triumph back on March 13.
 
Seven players recorded a hit for IUP, including five with multiple knocks on the day. Matt Luchovick went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, two walks and two runs scored. Au'sean Owens and Ricardo Aponte added two hits and two runs apiece in another victory that saw strong performances throughout the lineup.
 
Sebastian Rosado-Guindin notched the victory in relief with 2.1 innings of work. Rosado-Guindin allowed one run, whirling four strikeouts in 33 pitches. From there, Dane Samartino and Jimmy Tooley rounded out the final 3.1 innings on the mound.
 
The Hawks never trailed in the game, breaking a 1-1 tie with a six-run outburst in the third. From there, IUP tacked on three more runs in the sixth. Run-scoring singles from Harrison Pontoli, Brady Yard and Andrew Sicisnki pushed the Hawks to a 4-1 edge in the third. The Hawks plated three more runs in the frame, highlighted by a Zach Miller single, for a comfortable 7-1 margin.
 
Miller has now elevated to the top of the team with a .364 batting average, going eight for his last 12 (.666) in the last three contests at the plate. The Huskies got back within 7-5, jumpstarted by a two-run home run from Wyatt Metzgar in the third.
 
 The Hawks scored two of their three runs in the sixth inning on wild pitches with Aponte driving in a run for the third time in the last four games. Tooley worked around a pair of leadoff walks in the ninth, notching two timely strikeouts for his second save of the season.
 
Up Next
IUP takes on Clarion for a doubleheader on Thursday, March 28. The games were rescheduled from Saturday due to impending weather.
