GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The No. 49 IUP women's tennis program continued their success in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA DII Atlantic Region Tournament, handing seven-seeded Shaw a 4-0 defeat on Friday afternoon at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
IUP moves to 15-8 on the season with an 11th straight victory, knocking off Shaw in the regional tournament for a second consecutive season.
Making its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 15 seasons, IUP held on for the all-important doubles point before clinching the match in singles play.
Veronica Sirci and
Hannah Beitat set the tone for the day with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
The senior duo of
Katy Graydon and
Lydia Vlachou clinched the doubles point with a matching 6-2 victory.
Beitat added a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, handing the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
Ming Deewajee took care of business at the top singles flight, recording a 6-2, 6-0 triumph.
Vlachou clinched the NCAA Tournament victory for the Crimson Hawks with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Marija Ristanovic at No. 4 singles.
