WEST CHESTER, Pa. — The IUP baseball program got another strong pitching effort from the duo of
Jason Madrak and
Jimmy Tooley, while
Ricardo Aponte blasted the go-ahead home run in the 10th inning, capping an undefeated run through the Atlantic Region One Tournament with a 2-1 victory against Charleston (W.Va.).
The Crimson Hawks (36-15) advance to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time in program history, awaiting the winner of the East Stroudsburg/Seton Hill matchup.
Madrak allowed one run over four innings, providing a strong start as he continues working back to full strength. Tooley took over from there, dealing a scoreless final six innings with six punchouts.
Davin Landers brought home the first run of the game for IUP with one of his two knocks, while Aponte smacked the go-ahead blast in the IUP half of the 10th inning.
An evenly-played game, IUP posted seven hits, eventually breaking through against the UC bullpen. The Golden Eagles had just two baserunners over the last three innings, closing the season at 44-10.
