ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The IUP women's tennis team hung tough in a 4-0 shutout loss to second-ranked Nova Southeastern on Monday afternoon at Altamonte Springs in the NCAA Round of 16.
IUP wraps up another strong season with a 16-9 overall mark, advancing to the program's 16th NCAA Tournament all-time. The Crimson Hawks were seeded No. 15 in this year's field, while Nova Southeastern was No. 2 in the bracket.
Nova Southeastern improves to 24-4, advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon.
The Sharks quickly posted the doubles point, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights.
Lydia Vlachou and
Katy Graydon were ahead 4-2 in doubles play when the Sharks clinched the opening point of the match.
NSU secured the sweep with wins at the number two, five and six singles flights.
Hannah Beitat pushed her matchup with Julia Moraes to a third set, while
Ming Deewajee held a 6-5 edge in the second set of her halted flight against second-ranked Natalie Espinal.
Graydon (153) and Vlachou (137) each finish among the top 10 in program history in combined career victories. Graydon closes her IUP career with 86 doubles wins, good for sixth all-time.
