IUP women’s lacrosse upended in Senior Day setback to Lock Haven

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP women's lacrosse used four consecutive goals and some strong defense to force overtime, falling in overtime on Senior Day to Lock Haven by a 12-11 final on Saturday at Miller Stadium.
 
IUP (7-10, 6-6) flipped the script in the second half, posting all three markers in the fourth quarter. Charging back to force overtime, the Hawks won the draw control and got initial possession.
 
Lock Haven (14-3, 9-3) got some key saves from Dana Mirgliano throughout the day before Gabby Gunnip capped the scoring in overtime with her 56th goal of the season. It culminated an intense game that saw momentum swings for both sides in the regular season finale.
 
IUP finished with 39-23 edge in shots and a 16-11 edge in draw controls. Chantal Jimenez finished with nine draw controls on the day, becoming the program's all-time leader in draw controls for her career. Jimenez finishes her college career with 352 draw controls as one of the five IUP seniors recognized prior to the contest.
 
She joined Sarah Reustle, Kaeleigh Cronin, Rylee Wilson and Kim Carpentiere in the Senior Day festivities on the field. Lock Haven's lead hovered around four goals for much of the third quarter before IUP made its final run.
 
Emme Mass scored twice in IUP's scoring surge that spanned the entirety of the fourth quarter. She carved inside and delivered the game-tying marker with 2:15 remaining in regulation, knotting the score at 11.
 
Alexi Crosby added three goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers for IUP. The Hawks were aggressive defensively, making things tough for Lock Haven in the clear.
 
Maggie Kilgallon had two goals, while Mass finished with two key markers and an assist for the Hawks. Defensively, Wilson caused five turnovers and Maggie Marsteller concluded her collegiate career with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
 
Mirigliano had 16 saves in the contest, holding down the fort as IUP tilted the field in the fourth quarter. Gunnip had five goals and Josey Shaffer recorded four points (two goals, two assists for the playoff-bound Bald Eagles.
