INDIANA, Pa. -- The 25th ranked IUP (4-0, 1-0 PSAC) football program took down Clarion (2-3, 0-2 PSAC) 31-0 Saturday evening in their home opener at Miller Stadium, maintaining their undefeated record.
This match-up marks their 13th consecutive win against the Golden Eagles dating back to 2011, boosting IUP head coach Tortorella's record to 7-0 against Clarion.
IUP maintained possession for 40 minutes, covering 21 first downs, 179 total rushing yards, 247 total passing yards, and four touchdowns.Â
The Crimson Hawks offense had a remarkable showing this evening as
Karst Hunter threw 21-27 for 247 yards, with the longest throw being 39-yards to
Maurice Massey, and two touchdowns. Hunter rushed for 70-yards resulting in a touchdown to get himself on the board.
Massey hauled in six receptions for 78-yards and one touchdown,
Cyair Clark had seven receptions for 64-yards,
Cole Laney had one for 32-yards, and Shamany Connor had one as well for 21-yards.Â
Kaleb Monaco rushed for 71-yards and one touchdown and
JD Younger rushed for 41-yards. Nick Adrasi the kicker, totaled seven points this evening, one field goal and four extra points.Â
IUP's stellar defense held Clarion to seven first downs, 21 total rushing yards, 93 total passing yards, and forced them to punt seven times for 237 yards.
Maurice Feazell and
Garrett Cox both totaled six tackles and Feazell recorded 2.5 sacks for a loss of 18-yards.Â
Clarion won the coin toss but deferred it to IUP, beginning the drive starting on their own 25-yard line. IUP's offense made steady progress that led them down the field to the two-yard line. Hunter threw three passes to Clark for 38-yards as well as a 32-yard deep throw to Laney. IUP could not finish, turning the ball over to Clarion on downs.Â
After Clarion's initial drive could not progress they were forced to punt, and the kick landed at the IUP 45-yard line, setting the Hawks up for their first touchdown. As IUP moved down the field to the Clarion 4-yard line, Hunter connected with Massey on a short pass to the middle, resulting in the first of several touchdowns for the night.
Before the end of the first, Clarion had a second opportunity but their punt was tipped by
Nathan Rosario-Santos. With 10 minutes left in the second, Hunter gained momentum rushing for 20-yards, then passed to Massey for 39-yards, getting in the end zone himself after a 16-yard rush up the middle. Andrasi's kick was good extending IUP's lead to 14-0.Â
To start the second half, IUP advanced to the Clarion 7-yard line, where Andrasi successfully kicked a field goal, increasing their lead to 17-0.
IUP continued their drive into the fourth quarter from the 21-yard line. Younger rushed for 12-yards up the middle, setting up a 1st and 9. Monaco shortened the distance with a four-yard gain which set up the passing touchdown to
Marcus Day.Â
With two minutes remaining in the game, Feazell sacked Clarion's quarterback Anthony Guercio causing a loss of 11 yards and a fumble. IUP'sÂ
Terell Williams was quick to recover the ball at the eight-yard line.Â
With a minute left in the game Hunter handed the ball off to Monaco jumping into the end zone for the final Hawk touchdown of the night.  Andrasi's successful kick closed out the game, 31-0.
