INDIANA, Pa. -- No. 22 IUP women's basketball dropped to nationally ranked Seton Hill 67-60, Saturday afternoon after the Griffins pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Shamia Strayhorn led the floor with 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and had three steals. Ellie Wilkerson contributed 15 points, six rebounds, and four steals, while Grace Centrulla chipped in eight points, nine rebounds, and four blocks.
IUP struggled offensively, shooting just .311 from the field and .105 from three-point range. In the second and fourth quarters combined, the Crimson Hawks managed only five field goals. Seton Hill fared slightly better, shooting .348 overall and .192 from beyond the arc.
The Hawks started strong jumping out to a 17-8 lead. Wilkerson opened the scoring with two free throws, followed by back-to-back layups from Strayhorn to make it 6-2 at the 6:51 mark. Wilkerson extended the lead to 10 points with a layup late in the quarter.
In the second quarter, IUP made just three baskets and converted two free throws. The teams headed into the half with the Griffins holding the advantage 28-25.
In the third, IUP tied the game at 30-30 with a Wilkerson layup and three-pointer by Centrulla that were both assisted by Janeira Scott. The teams traded baskets throughout the quarter with IUP hitting seven free throws and a late jumper by Marin Miller to knot the score at 49 heading into the fourth.
Beginning of the final quarter the teams remained tight. A Griffin three-pointer at 3:43 put them ahead by four points. Wilkerson shortened their deficit to five points with just under a minute to go, but Seton Hill added two more free throws to finish the game.
