BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis team advanced all four of its doubles pairings to the round of 32 Thursday at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Bloomsburg.
The Crimson Hawks had a strong day in doubles play, highlighted by Maria Moskaltsova and Ifigeneia Kafka, who defeated Slippery Rock 8-6. The IUP duo will face a California (Pa.) pair in Friday's action.
Lea Von Kozierowski and Asel Callbay, topped Laura Maciel and Luiza Parreira of Fairmont State 8-3.
Annemiek Sterk and Hannah Beitat edged West Virginia Wesleyan's team 8-6. They will meet the No. 21 seed from Bluefield State in the next round.
Isabelle Oikawa Torres and Charliz Tabili also moved on, defeating Fairmont State's Maria Fonseca and Stephanie Gopar. They will take on Edinboro.
IUP also found success in singles play, with Callbay, Von Kozierowski, Moskaltsova, Tabili and Kafka all advancing.
The Crimson Hawks continue competition Friday in Bloomsburg.
