IUP edges California (Pa.) 1–0 behind Smith’s second-half goal

INDIANA, Pa. – Junior forward Elle Smith scored the lone goal in the 70th minute to lift IUP to a 1–0 victory over California (Pa.) in PSAC West women's soccer action Saturday at South Campus Field.

Smith's strike at 69:12 broke a scoreless tie and gave the Crimson Hawks their 12th win of the season. IUP controlled possession throughout the match, outshooting the Vulcans 9–1, including a 4–1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Crimson Hawks also earned a 3–1 edge in corner kicks while committing only three fouls compared to eight by California. Goalkeepers Sarah Gatz and Kylie Hassinger combined for the shutout.

IUP improved to 12–2–2 overall and 10–2–1 in PSAC West play. California dropped to 2–12–2 overall and 2–9–2 in the conference.

IUP continues conference play next week with a road matchup against Mercyhurst.
