INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's basketball team is coming off a statement win over Ashland in its home opener at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. The Crimson Hawks will face Chatham during the team's annual Elementary Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21.

Craig Carey is set for his fourth season at IUP. Carey was hired just before the 2022-23 season and most recently came off an extremely successful season that saw the Crimson Hawks upset the number one seed in the Atlantic Region tournament but fell to Gannon in the third round.
>> IUP has won its last six regular season openers with the last setback coming in the 2017-18 season.
>> Three freshman were recruited to the Crimson Hawks this off-season, these players include

>> Diligent work was also done by Coach Carey and the coaching staff to retool the Crimson Hawk lineup with the total of seven new additions from the transfer portal.

Teresa Maggio (Mount Vernon Nazarene),
Kamiya Dambreville (Monroe College),
Alexis Buie (Shippensburg), and
Naomi Zulueta (Delaware State) will all be appearing alongside the four returning players from the previous season for the Crimson Hawks.

>> Chatham enters the game with a 5-1 record, most recently defeating Pitt-Greensburg. The Cougars have outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points per game.

Nyshae' Weaver currently leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.7 PPG.
>> Weaver recorded her first double-double of the season against Ashland, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

This will be the first meeting between Chatham and IUP.
CHATHAM AT A GLANCE
Chatham enters the matchup with a 5-1 record, most recently defeating Pitt-Greensburg. The Cougars have outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points per game.
The Division III program out of the Presidents' Athletic Conference is led by head coach David Saur, now in his eighth season. The Cougars lost to Washington & Jefferson in the PAC championship last season. The team has made three PAC championship appearances under Saur, winning the conference title in the 2023-24 season.
SCORING WITH THE BEST
IUP leads the PSAC in scoring through three games, averaging 83.3 points per game — 2.3 more than Clarion, the next-highest team.
Nyshae' Weaver leads the Crimson Hawks with 27.7 points per game. Overall, IUP has three players averaging double figures.
NOT JUST OFFENSE
The Hawks also rank among the top three in the PSAC in scoring defense, allowing just over 50 points per game through three contests. IUP holds a positive scoring differential of 32.7 points.
MESS AROUND AND GET A DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Nyshae' Weaver was one of two players in the PSAC to average a double-double last season. She earned her first of the 2025-26 campaign against nationally ranked Ashland on Wednesday, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the Crimson Hawks' statement win over the Eagles.
SHOOTERS SHOOT
Teresa Maggio has started the season a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, leading the PSAC. She is also shooting better than 35% from 3-point range, going 4-for-7 against Ashland.
