INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP men's basketball program came up with a nonconference win, Wednesday evening at home against Penn. State Dubois, 88-70.
With this win, IUP improved to 11-10 overall, while Penn State DuBois dropped to 9-13.
Tyler Grove had another great night, he scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and posted three blocks.
Damir Brooks also scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had a steal.
Christian Moore added 13 points, while
Kymani Merraro and
Ian Herring each contributed 11 points. Merraro achieved a double-double with 11 assists, and Herring also added two steals and two blocks.
IUP shot .540 from the field and .318 beyond the arc. The bench contributed 25 points.
In the first half, IUP got out to an 8-2 lead, with two baskets coming from Grove.
Alfonso Pickens Jr. hit a three pointer at the 13:44 mark, which sparked a back-and-forth exchange of leads. IUP took control for good after Grove hit a three-pointer at the 10:17 mark. A pass from Merraro set up Brooks for a dunk, that pushed IUP's lead into double digits. Brooks finished the first half by scoring all of IUP's final eight points, which gave the Hawks a 48-33 lead at the break.
In the second half, Penn State DuBois went on a 15-2 run that cut IUP's lead to just eight points at the 11:30 mark. IUP responded immediately with a 14-5 run, that included a three-pointer and a basket from Herring to push their lead to 20 points. Callum Macnamara capped the scoring for IUP with a layup.
