Baseball dropped first two at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The IUP baseball team dropped the first two game against Shepherd on Sunday. 
 
With these losses IUP fell to 2-7 on the season while Shepherd improved to 8-8. 
 
In the first inning, with two outs, Mike Huber, Elijah Dunn, and Peyton Johnson each drew walks, loading the bases. However, Cameron Copple struck out, leaving all three stranded.
 
In the top of the second, Robert Carfagno singled up the middle and then stole second. Davin Landers followed with a single to center field, advancing Carfagno, but he was tagged out. Landers proceeded to steal second before Mitchell Grosch was walked. Ricardo Aponte then singled to left field, allowing Landers to score. IUP ended the inning with two runners left on base.
 
In the third, Dunn was walked, stole second, and advanced to third on an error. Copple was also walked and then stole second. Carfagno grounded out to second base which sent Dunn to score that gave IUP a 2-0 lead. 
 
Shepherd responded in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs to tie the game, while IUP stranded two runners. The next two innings remained scoreless until the Rams hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh, securing a 3-2 victory.
 
IUP dropped the second game 14-0, statistics from game two are currently unavailable.
 
Up Next
IUP will return to actions this afternoon with another doubleheader against Shepherd set for noon.
