SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The IUP baseball team struggled offensively, managing just six hits in today's doubleheader loss against Shepherd. IUP dropped in game one 3-0 and 4-0 in the second.
IUP dropped to 2-9 on the season while Shepherd improved to 10-8.Â

Game 1:
IUP struggled offensively recording just two hits throughout the entire game. Recording those hits was
Ricardo Aponte and
Ethan Schimony, each with singles. On the mound,
Jake Black pitched five innings, allowed six hits and three runs.
Jimmy Tooley entered in the bottom of the sixth, pitching one inning and gave up two hits.

Game 2:Â

Aponte,
Camden Rhude,
Peyton Johnson, and
Cayden Bender recorded hits in game two, with Johnson and Bender each hitting doubles. IUP sent four pitchers to the mound throughout the game.Â
In the top of the first, Aponte and Rhude singled but were left stranded after two outs. Bender doubled to right-center in the top of the third, but the next three batters were unable to bring him home.

Shepherd scored in the bottom of the first and twice in the third inning to get out to a 3-0 lead.Â

In the bottom of the fifth,
Mitchell Grosch and Rhude drew walks but were left on base. The Rams added another run in the sixth to extend their lead.

IUP will return to action against Bloomsburg on Thursday, March 13 at 3:00 p.m.
