Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. -- The IUP tennis team defeated nationally ranked Ferris State Saturday morning with a score of 5-2.
"The ladies played four nationally ranked teams this week and won every doubles point. This is not only impressive in its own regard, but with these being the first matches we played outside, it makes it even more impressive", said head coach
Andrew McGlashen.
IUP began the day with wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Nationally ranked
Ming Deewajee and
Dani Ramos won with a score of 6-2, and in No. 2 doubles was
Annemiek Sterk and Lieselotte Hartlohner who battled to win 7-6.
IUP earned wins in each of the top four single spots. In No. 1 singles was Hartlohner who earned her second victory of the day with scores of 7-6, 5-7, and 10-7 in the tiebreak. Deewajee won in No. 2 singles with scores of 6-4 and a second set sweep 6-0.
No. 3 singles was occupied by Ramos and No. 4 singles was
Asel Calbay who each won with scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
IUP fell in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches. Sterk was in the No. 5 spot (3-6, 4-6) and
Isabelle Oikawa Torres in No. 6 (3-6, 1-6).
"I'm especially pleased with how the ladies fought for each other all week. We have a lot of confidence going into regional and PSAC play. Go Hawks!"
