SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The IUP women's tennis team rallied for a 4-3 conference win over Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon.
IUP is now 6-6 on the season and 1-0 in conference play while Slippery Rock dropped to 5-7 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC.
IUP dropped the doubles point after losses at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, both by scores of 4-6. In the No. 3 spot was Hannah Beitat and Asel Calbay who won with a score of 6-1.
Lieselotte Hartlohner came close in No. 1 singles with a win in the first set, 6-3, but dropped the next two with scores of 2-6 and 6-7. Dani Ramos occupied the No. 3 spot and fell 2-6, 2-6.
IUP won four singles matches with wins at No. 2, 4, 5, 6 spots.
In No. 2 singles was Ming Deewajee, who won with scores of 6-2, 6-2. Asel Calbay won No. 5 singles with scores of 7-6 and 6-4. Annemiek Sterk rounded out the singles action in the No. 6 spot and picked up a win with scores of 6-1, 4-6, and 6-1. Hannah Beitat secured the victory for the Hawks with her win at No. 4 singles after she split the first two sets but won the third, 6-1.
