EDINBORO, Pa. -- Despite IUP's fourth quarter push, they came close but were unable to come out on top, falling to Edinboro in the PSAC Quarterfinals, 66-64.
IUP dropped to 21-7 overall while Edinboro improved to 23-5 on the season.
Nyshae' Weaver started the scoring for the Hawks at 6:58 from a layup before Edinboro jumped to a 13-2 lead. At 2:14, Madison Zavasky added a layup which sparked an 8-0 run to finish out the first quarter down three, 13-10.
Shamia Strayhorn made a basket at 7:26 to end Edinboro's 8-0 run that began the second quarter. Around the five-minute mark, IUP went on a nine-point run to close the gap back to seven points, 30-23. The Hawks finished the half with consecutive baskets from Janeira Scott and Ellie Wilkerson.
IUP scored two early baskets in the third followed by two made free throws from Grace Centrulla which limited their trail to five points, 38-33. Weaver added a layup at 4:11. With under two minutes to play in the quarter, the Fighting Scots worked up to a 15-point advantage. Lily Jordan finished off the quarter with two free throws and a jumper from Strayhorn, 57-44.
Wilkerson added the first five points for IUP in the fourth with two free throws and a three-pointer at 8:08. IUP held Edinboro scoreless for the first four minutes until they made a basket at 5:58. Another four scoreless minutes passed for the Fighting Scots as IUP managed to cut their trail to just two points at 3:19, 61-59. The teams finished the quarter trading free throws until IUP's final basket came as time expired, falling short 66-64.
