LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The IUP women's basketball team had two All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West First Team selections, the league announced Friday.
Junior forward Nyshae' Weaver and senior guard Shamia Strayhorn were both All-PSAC West First Team selections.
Edinboro and Seton Hill split the major awards for the western division. For Edinboro, Morgan Gentile was named the Athlete of the Year and Rachel Manfredo was named the Freshman of the Year. For Seton Hill, Mia Kalich was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Maeve Gallagher earned Coach of the Year honors.
This is Weaver's second All-PSAC selection, having previously earned second-team honors last season. Over the course of the season, she received PSAC weekly honors four times, including three selections as Defensive Player of the Week.
She has engraved her name into the record books this past season. She landed first in single season field goal percentage (.654) which led the PSAC, and first in career field goal percentage (.615). She averaged 15.0 points per game and surpassed the 20-point mark three times, including a season-high 26 points against Shepherd on December 6, where she shot an impressive 12-for-13 from the field.
She is tied for third in single-game rebounds with 20, a feat she accomplished twice this season. Weaver now holds the top spot in career rebounding average (10.8) and ranks third in single-season rebounding average (11.3). With 283 total rebounds this season, she sits ninth on the program's single-season list, just three shy of surpassing her eighth-place finish from last year (285).
At the time of the release, Weaver ranked 11th nationally with 15 double-doubles during the season. She started all 25 games she played in, averaging 30.5 minutes per game.
Strayhorn, a transfer from Wheeling, received All-PSAC honors for the first time. She started all 28 games this season and averaged 34.5 minutes per game, which ranks her sixth in the PSAC. Strayhorn averaged 16.0 points per game, ranking fifth in the PSAC and tying for 19th in the program's single-season scoring average records.
Her highest scoring game came against Pitt-Johnstown when she scored 26 points shooting 11-for-16 FG. Strayhorn secured 19th place in single-season points with 447 and led the team in scoring 13 times. She also ranks among the conference's top 15 in steals, recording 52 this season.
