IUP softball takes one of two games in doubleheader against Clarion

CLARION, Pa. – The IUP softball team won game one of the doubleheader in a commanding 4-1 victory. In the second game, IUP's late rally attempt was not enough for the deficit they found themselves in early on.

IUP is now 23-13 overall and 14-8 in conference play.

Game One
Kendall Young posted her 14th win of the season after pitching a complete game against the Golden Eagles. She recorded three hits in 7.0 innings and struck out eight batters while only walking one batter.

The scoring began for the Crimson Hawks with Reagan Rand homering giving IUP a 1-0 lead in the second inning. IUP was able to increase their lead just one inning later. Madison Pikula singled and was able to get home one at-bat later when Jordan Sylvia hit a double. Sylvia crossed the plate on Delaney Patella's RBI single. Paige Truax followed with an RBI double to send Patella home.

Clarion acquired their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after a triple hit that brought home one runner.

Game Two
IUP found themselves in a scoring deficit quickly and was unable to acquire a lead. During the second inning, Clarion scored two runs off a two-run homer. Clarion scored three more runs in the fourth inning.

IUP's offense came alive late when Ruby Singleton singled in the seventh inning. Singleton brought home two runners, Jess Cekada and Reagan Rand
