INDIANA, Pa. — Coming off a top-five win at Gannon, the IUP women's basketball team returns home to face the Edinboro Fighting Scots on Wednesday in its first home game in two weeks.
The Crimson Hawks are led by PSAC West Athlete of the Week Nyshae Weaver, who averaged 20 points per game in two wins last week while shooting 83% from the floor. Weaver leads IUP in scoring at 16 points per game and averages nine rebounds.
IUP, under fourth-year coach Craig Carey, is off to the best start of his tenure and climbed to No. 7 in this week's national polls. The Crimson Hawks are 3-0 against ranked teams this season, including a 68-63 win over No. 5 Gannon, with Weaver recording a double-double in each matchup.
Senior guard/forward Ellie Wilkerson has hit her stride in conference play, posting five consecutive games with at least 10 points. Wilkerson's season high came against Millersville, when she scored 23 points, going 5-for-5 from 3-point range. Transfer Teresa Maggio has scored in double figures in all but two games this season, continuing a career trend of consistent scoring and outside shooting.
IUP ranks second in the PSAC in scoring at 81.2 points per game and among the top two in scoring defense, allowing 51 points per game. The Crimson Hawks are also nationally ranked in field goal percentage (.511), rebound margin (16.2), scoring defense, and winning percentage (1.000). Depth has been a key factor, with 11 players averaging double-digit minutes per game.
Edinboro, the defending PSAC West champion, enters the matchup with an 11-7 overall record, including eight conference wins. The Fighting Scots have won 10 of their last 11 games. Sophomore guard Rachel Manfredo leads the team, averaging nearly 15 points per game. Edinboro is coached by Callie Wheeler, a seventh-year graduate of the program with 121 career wins.
Through 93 meetings, IUP holds a 52-41 advantage over Edinboro, winning three of four contests last season, including a 67-52 win in the NCAA Regional Tournament. The teams split their last 10 matchups from 2022-25, with the Crimson Hawks winning five of eight games under Carey.
Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Kovalchick Complex.
