Balanced IUP Attack Powers 97-66 Win Over California (Pa.)

INDIANA, Pa. — The Indiana University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team used a balanced offensive effort and strong defensive play to defeat California (Pa.), 97-66, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.

IUP led wire to wire, building a 49-39 halftime advantage before pulling away in the second half by outscoring the Vulcans in each of the final two quarters.

Teresa Maggio led the Crimson Hawks with 19 points, shooting 8 of 14 from the field and connecting on three 3-pointers. Nyshae' Weaver followed with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while Molly Keane added 12 points.

The Crimson Hawks had six players score in double figures and shot efficiently throughout the contest, setting the tone early by hitting 65 percent from the field in the opening quarter.

Defensively, IUP forced turnovers and controlled the glass, limiting California's second-chance opportunities and keeping the visitors from mounting any sustained runs.

Trinity Balog led California (Pa.) with 21 points, shooting 6 of 12 from the field and a perfect 6 for 6 at the free-throw line. Kennedy Bankett added 15 points for the Vulcans.

The win keeps IUP in position near the top of the PSAC standings as conference play continues.
