IUP Women's Basketball Visits Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. — The IUP women's basketball team will look to close the month of January with a road victory Saturday afternoon when it travels to Seton Hill for Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Katherine Mabis McKenna Center in Greensburg.

The Crimson Hawks enter the matchup riding momentum after a decisive home victory over California (Pa.) at the KCAC. Seton Hill has won three of its last five games and is coming off a win against Pitt-Johnstown.

IUP is led by head coach Craig Carey, who owns a .745 winning percentage during his tenure, ranking second in program history behind Tom McConnell (.798). Under Carey, the Crimson Hawks have established themselves as one of the PSAC's most balanced teams.

Both teams feature high-powered offenses. Seton Hill leads the PSAC in scoring at 84.7 points per game, while IUP ranks just behind at 80.3. The Crimson Hawks also rank near the top of the conference in efficiency, leading the PSAC with a .518 team field goal percentage.

Nyshae' Weaver leads IUP in scoring at 15.7 points per game while also averaging 8.8 rebounds. Weaver ranks second on the team with 30 steals and leads the Crimson Hawks in field goal percentage at .611, which ranks second in the PSAC.

Ellie Wilkerson has found her rhythm offensively, scoring 15 or more points in three of the last four contests. Her breakout performance came against Millersville, where she scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field, including 5-of-5 from 3-point range.

Teresa Maggio has played a key role in IUP's success after transferring from Mount Vernon Nazarene. Maggio leads the team in minutes played (26.5 MPG), ranks second in scoring at 13.1 points per game and leads the Crimson Hawks with 39 steals.

Defensively, IUP has been just as dominant. The Crimson Hawks allow just 53.7 points per game, ranking among the top two teams in the PSAC, and boast a league-best scoring margin of plus-25.9, which ranks third nationally in Division II. IUP also leads the PSAC in opponent rebounding, allowing just 26.0 rebounds per game.

Seton Hill enters the contest with a 14-4 overall record and a 10-2 mark in conference play. Senior Hallie Cowan leads the Griffins with 18.4 points per game, while junior Mia Kalich averages a double-double with 14.2 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. Kalich leads the PSAC with 75 steals this season.

IUP leads the all-time series with Seton Hill, 17-7, though the Griffins swept the Crimson Hawks during the 2024-25 season, winning both contests by seven points or fewer.

Saturday's matchup marks the final game of January for IUP as it continues PSAC play on the road.
