NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The Indiana (Pa.) women's tennis team earned its first victory of 2026 Saturday, defeating Ashland 7-0 in the opening match of a weekend road trip to Ohio.
IUP secured the doubles point after earning a win by retirement at No. 3 doubles and then claimed victories in the remaining two matches. The duo of Annemiek Sterk and Maria Moskaltsova won 6-3, while Isabelle Oikawa Torres and Charliz Tabili followed with a 6-1 decision.
In singles play, the Crimson Hawks again benefited from a win by retirement and completed the sweep of the Eagles. Ifigeneia Kafka was pushed to a third-set tiebreaker against Ana Penteado after dropping the first set 6-3 and taking the second 6-2. Kafka closed out the match with a 10-6 win in the deciding tiebreaker.
The remaining Crimson Hawks handled their singles matches in straight sets to seal the shutout.
IUP will return to action Saturday in North Canton, facing Walsh at 5 p.m.
